Rolling Over

Last night, Drake completed one of his 4-7 month milestones...rolling over! Now, unlike most babies, he is rolling back to front first. It is really cute to watch because he pumps his legs to he can move to his side. Then he pumps his legs some more and wiggles his butt until he is on his stomach. I will try and get some video footage tonight of this accomplishment. I think one thing that has helped in his pushing up while he's on his stomach and rolling over is his love of watching Luke and Alice. As soon as the dogs walk in the room, he just wants to see what they are doing. I have started to position him on the floor so he has to push up to see them. When he sees them, he just gets the biggest grin!

In other news, we leave tomorrow for a long weekend in New Orleans to help celebrate my grandmother's 90th birthday. It will be great getting to see most of our family and for them to meet Drake for the first time. I just hope that the nine hour drive goes ok. When we went to DC, Drake did great until the last hour of each leg. If he can do that again, I will take it.

Father's Day

I hope everyone had a great Father's Day yesterday. We did not really do anything special for David's first Father's Day was, but it was relaxing. The day started with homemade french toast with blueberry compote...it was actually pretty tasty. We decided that we would take Luke to the dog park so he could play with some other dogs, but apparently Sunday mornings are not the time to go to the dog park in Clemson if you would like socialization! Luke did get to play a little Frisbee and run around.
The rest of the day we just hung out. Drake was a little grumpy (for him), so he slept much of the day.

Hanging out with Daddy on Father's Day

Playing in the jumper...yes, that is the WiiFit board under his feet. The jumper is for 4months+ and Drake is in the 90th percentile for height. If he is too short who is using this at 4 months?!
I am amazed everyday as I watch David with Drake. I knew that he would be a great dad, but it really is so much fun to see the two of the together. David is a wonderful dad and Drake smiles so big when he sees him coming.

Happy Father's Day also to Papa and George (aka Granddaddy)!

4 Months Old

My cousin has been writing very sweet notes to her son every month, letting him know what milestones he has reached and what has been going on in his life. I think it is a great idea, so I am going to start to do the same for Drake. Drake turned 4 months old this past Saturday, June 11th. It really is amazing how much he has changed in such a short period of time.

So...to Drake:

  • You are now 15 pounds 1 ounce (50th percentile) and 26 inches long (90th percentile)
  • Your clothes are mostly 6-9 months, although some of those are starting to get a little snug
  • You love to smile at anyone that speaks to you
  •  You love to eat...I do not think you have ever turned down a meal. You are going to stay on a milk diet for two more months and then it will be time to trey all kinds of new foods.
  • You love to watch Alice and Luke, no matter what they are doing. When Alice barks, you think it is the funniest thing in the world (we have a video that we'll show you one day).
  • You are becoming very verbal, cooing, saying ah, laughing, grunting, and making all sorts of other noises.
  • For the last couple weeks, you have been sleeping from about 9:00 until 6:15. Some mornings you will wake up around 3:00 and talk to yourself and play for a few minutes and then you go right back to sleep.
  • While you cannot roll over yet, most mornings we find you sleeping on your side.
  • You prefer to sit-up and really if you had it your way, you would be standing all of the time. You really want to sit-up on your own and are working on your abs...so maybe soon.
  • You love to fly like Superman and get the biggest grin on your face
  • You have been on two "longish" car rides and one really long ride. You have gone to Waynesville, NC to move some of your Granny's furniture, Florence, SC to visit Mammy and Granddaddy, and Washington, DC for your Aunt Amanda's masters graduation. You even got to see President Obama playing with his dog Bo on the lawn of the White House!
  • You love your Sophie and your elephant head blanket
  • You really are a very happy baby but sometimes you do get a little upset. When that happens, we just have to walk outside and you start to smile.
  • You have now gone to 3 Clemson baseball games and the ACC Rowing Championships.
Drake, you have made us so happy and we are so lucky to have to in our lives. It was right around this time last year that we found out that I was pregnant with you. I was just about to leave to attend a conference in Salt Lake City when I had the positive pregnancy test. We were so happy but also a little apprehensive because just two months before, I had thought I was pregnant. When I got back from Salt Lake, I had another positive pregnancy test and the doctor confirmed, you were on your way! You daddy and I love you so much and as Big Nutbrown Hare says, "I love you to the moon and back."

Get ready for a really busy month ahead. We have Father's Day, your first trip to New Orleans for your Grandmother's 90th birthday party and Uncle Jeff's birthday, Aunt Amanda's birthday, your daddy's birthday, my birthday, and then your baptism!

Attempting to Blog

I have decided that I am going to attempt to start a blog about our family and Drake's new adventures. Hopefully this will help all of you non-Facebook users keep up with what's going on in his young life. I am going to try and post regularly, but please do not expect to see something new everyday! Really, you would get bored with our everyday life. So, enjoy reading about all of our misadventures!
